ARTICLE I-NAME
The name of the organization shall be the SouthEast (Louisiana) Area Teachers of Mathematics.

ARTICLE II-PURPOSE
The purpose of the organization shall be to promote professional growth, encourage sharing of ideas and concerns, encourage the use of technology in the teaching of mathematics, and provide opportunities for fellowship among teachers of mathematics.

ARTICLE III-MEMBERSHIP
Section 1:

Membership shall be open to all persons interested in the teaching of mathematics.
Section 2:
A. Members shall pay regular dues and be entitled to all privileges of the organization.
B. The Executive Board subject to approval of the membership shall set dues.
Section 3:
The membership period coincides with the school year from September to September.

ARTICLE IV-EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
Section 1:

Elected Officers: The officers shall consist of a president, a president-elect (or past president), the four vice-presidents, a secretary, and a treasurer.
Section 2:
One of the vice presidents shall be a K-4 teacher, one shall be a 5-8 teacher, one shall be a high school teacher, and one shall be a University teacher.
Section 3:
The Executive Council shall conduct any business of the organization that may require attention in the interval between meetings.

ARTICLE V- OFFICERS
Section 1:

Elected Officers: The officers of the organization shall be a president, a president-elect (or past president), the four vice-presidents, a secretary, and a treasurer/membership chairman. The terms of the office shall be:

Section 2:
Appointed Officers: The Executive Council shall appoint an editor of the newsletter of the SouthEast (Louisiana) Area Teachers of Mathematics. The editor of the newsletter shall be appointed for a two year term.
Section 3:
The fiscal year of the Council shall commence June 1 and end on May 31. All terms of the office shall commence and end on those dates.

ARTICLE VI-DUTIES OF OFFICERS
Section 1:

The President shall preside at all meetings of the organization and shall be chairman, ex-officio, of the Executive Council. The president shall be designated NCTM representative and the government relations representative of the Executive Council. The president is also responsible for assisting with the organization and conducting all of the contests sponsored by the Council.
Section 2:
The president-elect shall perform the duties of the President in his/her absence, and shall become President for the rest of the term. The president-elect is responsible for organizing and directing contest sponsored by the Council.
Section 3:
Each vice-president shall assist the president, encourage membership, and promote issues of special interest to the level representative.

ARTICLE VII- ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Section 1:

A nominating committee of three members appointed by the president shall make selection of candidates for the elective offices. The committee shall present one or more nominations for each office. Other nominations may be made from the floor.
Section 2:
The membership shall elect officers of the Council at the last meeting of the year.
Section 3:
In the event of a resignation of an elected officer, the Executive Council shall appoint a successor to complete the term of office.

ARTICLE VIII-MEETINGS
Section 1:

The meetings shall include at least one annual meeting to be held at a time and place designated by the Executive Council. The membership shall be notified appropriately in advance of each meeting.

ARTICLE IX-AMENDMENTS
Section 1:

This Constitution may be amended at the annual meeting of the organization by a two-thirds majority vote of the members present, provided that written notice of the proposed amendment(s) shall have been given to the membership at least one week prior to the meeting.

ARTICLE X-DISSOLUTION
Section 1:

In the event of the dissolution of the SouthEast Area Teachers of Mathematics the assets of the Council shall be distributed by the Executive Council to a tax-exempt organization sharing objectives similar to those of the SouthEast Area Teachers of Mathematics.
